The Fiji Institute of Accountants (FIA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Leadership Fiji (LF) to provide Leadership courses and programs, in particular essential leadership skills for its members.  The MOU signed on Thursday 08 October 2020 provides FIA members with additional development opportunities from what the Institute currently provides through its Technical Workshops, Seminars, Symposiums, Congress as well as their Women in Leadership series.

“Through our Professional Development Committee the Institute has been able to provide opportunities for our members to learn from numerous experts, professionals and academics in Accounting and Finance and also in the field of Technology, Management, Human Resources and Leadership, etc.  Therefore, the partnership with Leadership Fiji will only amplify what we are trying to provide to our members; to enhance and strengthen their own skills,” said FIA President Mr Nitesh Lal.

He added that in recognition of LF’s growing contribution to the professional development of many aspiring Fijian leaders it was only appropriate that the Institute seal the partnership and provide the same commitment to its members.

LF is an independent, non-partisan, non-aligned entity that was launched in 2000. Its vision is to develop and enhance the quality of leaders in Fiji.

LF Chief Executive Officer Sharyne Fong said, “we hope that this partnership will provide our 430+ Alumni, some of whom are also members of FIA with the opportunity to continue with their learning journey and professional development. We believe that Leadership is Action and not a position and that leaders must invest in their own personal development to progress into becoming exceptional leaders.”

“2021 will mark our 20th Anniversary and so this partnership is another great way to celebrate this achievement by creating learning opportunities for our Alumni, Fellows and FIA’s membership base by making a real difference at a time when we all need to work together as Fijians”, Fong added.

“With our shared values that aims to serve and support our members as leaders in their workplaces and in their communities this partnership only helps the Institute better realise its vision. We must acknowledge Ms Sharyne Fong and her team for progressing with this partnership and providing an avenue for the Institute to better support our members,” said Mr Lal.

He also explained that the Institute has over the years done similar partnerships with various organisations and academia; The University of the South Pacific, Fiji Revenue and Customs Services, Reserve Bank of Fiji, Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and CPA Australia to provide training or professional development support to its members. This new partnership only reaffirms FIA’s commitment to its members.
