Today we witnessed New Zealand’s Acting Head of Mission, Michelle Podmore handing over their $20,000 cheque to Leadership Fiji’s Board Chairperson, William Parkinson.
The New Zealand High Commission has been one of Leadership Fiji’s founding partners since its inception in 2001.
In handing over their cheque, Ms Podmore said “New Zealand is a proud partner of Leadership Fiji and its role in preparing young Fijian leaders to advance in their careers through its annual leadership course.”
“This year is special for two reasons, firstly it marks 20 years of our collaboration with Leadership Fiji and secondly a New Zealand High Commission staff member has joined the 2021 programme,” said Ms Podmore.
In receiving the cheque, Leadership Fiji’s Board Chairperson, Mr William Parkinson said “we appreciate the New Zealand High Commission’s commitment in developing the future leaders of Fiji and their belief in our vison to develop and enhance the quality of leaders in Fiji.”
William added; “Leadership Fiji turned 20 in February and this year we will celebrate and reflect how far we have come as an organization and the contribution of our now 470+ Alumni to our communities and country. Our big dream is to one day establish a Leadership Centre and own our own home. We will get there some day and are grateful for the support of all our partners and sponsors who believe in us.”
The Leadership Fiji Program allows members to explore their own values, philosophies, prejudices and beliefs through a variety of issues offered by the program and also offers direct interaction with current leaders across the private sector, civil society and Government.
Ms Podmore added “Our Development Programme Coordinator, Emma Christopher who is in this year’s programme, has the qualities of an aspirational leader and I am confident this leadership training will further hone her skills and inspire her to thrive further.”
New Zealand highly values such investment in Fiji’s future leaders.
